Annual Business Open House (Sunday, December 7th)

Sunday, Dec. 7th is the Saugerties Winter Festival.  As a "kickoff" of sorts to the 2009 Quadracentennial celebration, the Kiersted House is emphasizing a Dutch theme this year.  Sinter Klaas (an early Dutch representation of Santa Claus) will be riding a beautiful white horse to the Kiersted House and will be greeting guests there.  There will also be Dutch treats available.

From 2 to 4, the Saugerties Public Library will host a “Festival of Trees", involving a fun, tree-decorating contest.  Also from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m., there will be free horse-drawn wagon rides through our nationally-registered Historic Business district.

The Boys & Girls Club on Partition Street will be hosting cookie decorating from 1 to 4 p.m.  This is being sponsored by Sawyer Savings Bank.  Also in the Boys & Girls Club building, Art Lab will be offering arts and crafts and Elizabeth Stegmayer will be on hand, with Barefoot Storyland children's books.  Also for the kids we'll once again have businesses offering crafts and activities for that the children can enjoy making and can take away (or eat, in some cases).  There's even children's karaoke!  The businesses offering crafts and activities are:
  • Boys and Girls Club - Cookie decorating, crafts (ArtLab) and books
  • Exchange Hotel - Personalized ornaments
  • Hudson Valley Dessert Company - Karaoke for kids
  • Main Street Restaurant - Ornament making
  • Mirabella's - Ornament making
  • Mother Earth - Gingerbread cookie decorating
  • Village Pizza - Fried dough snowmen
  • Win Morrison Real Estate - Ornament making
As a special treat, there is a FREE acoustic performance on Sunday, December 7th at 3 p.m., at the United Methodist Church featuring the acclaimed American acoustic performers Jay Ungar and Molly Mason.

Although the concert is free, tickets are required. They may be picked up at Hope Farm Press on Main Street in Saugerties, beginning November 17th. The total number of tickets that can be handed out is limited to the capacity of the church.  When you pick up your tickets, please understand there is a limit of 2 tickets per person, please. This concert is sponsored by:
  • Town of Saugerties
  • Saugerties Economic Development Committee
  • Village of Saugerties
  • Saugerties Area Chamber of Commerce
Throughout the afternoon, strolling carolers in Victorian costume will be singing for your enjoyment.  A children’s favorite is the “light parade” of fire trucks, which kicks off around 5 p.m.  Santa will be on board, handing out candy as the trucks make their way from the business district to Seamon Park, for the lighting of the fantastic holiday display by the Saugerties Kiwanis Club.  Want to take in some good, old-fashioned holiday atmosphere?  Make the Village of Saugerties your destination on the first weekend in December. As always, there is plenty of free parking at the municipal parking lots and free parking for the holidays on Partition, Main, and Market Streets, one off Partition Street (enter between Mirabella Restaurant and Partition Street Wine Shop).

Noon - 4:00 PM
  • Sinter Klaas (early Dutch representation of Santa Claus) arrives at the Kiersted House on horseback around Noon.
