Saugerties Artists Studio Tour presents a Treasure Hunt.
The Saugerties Artists Studio Tour has moved into the first phase of this year’s tour with a special project created by 23 of the tour’s members. We applied for and were awarded a grant from the Explore NY 400 Quadricentennial Commission. In keeping with the theme of the Quad, we wanted to not only use our artistic talents but to make a fun event that is interactive with the public.
The Saugerties Artists Studio Tour Treasure Hunt is just that. Twenty-four boxes, filled with individual artists’ expressions of the Hudson River, Henry Hudson, Lake Champlain and/or Robert Fulton’s steamship have been completed and have been installed in select sites indoors and out throughout the Town of Saugerties. In the spirit of a treasure hunt, we’ve written clues to help the public seek and find these artful treasures. Some of the “Treasure” is hidden in plain site, while some are more challenging to find. It’s an event that a family can enjoy, making a day of it and discovering what’s in their own backyard.
The "hunting" part of the Treasure Hunt lasts from early July to August 29th. On August 29th, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., we will bring all the artwork together for a show at the Muddy Cup a/k/a Inquiring Mind Bookstore and Café, 65 Partition Street, Saugerties.
The reward is in the hunt and satisfaction of solving the clue. And, for a lucky treasure hunter who attends the show, a chance to win a gift certificate to one of Saugerties fine restaurants.
Clues will be posted on the tour website www.saugertiesarttour.com, “X” marks the spot, in the windows of the Inquiring Mind Bookstore and Cafe, Smith Hardware and the Saugeties Public Library.
