“Hors’n Around Saugerties” is up and prancing again, in 2010!

Brought to you once again by the Saugerties Area Chamber of Commerce, and this year operated and organized by the Cahill School PTA, Hors'n Around Saugerties 2010 will once again offer visitors to Saugerties (from roughly July 4th through early September) a treat for the eyes, throughout the beautiful Village Historic Business District and in various areas in the Town as well.  Whoa, Horsey! 

The participating artists from the Hudson Valley and beyond are never at a loss for creative ideas, and so be prepared.  They've been given free "rein" in terms of the design ideas they come up with this year.  (Last year, they were generally saddled with the guideline that the design should have something to do with the Quadricentennial.  This year, figure you'll be seeing horses of a different color.)

Giddy-up! “Hors’n Around Saugerties” is Gearing Up for its Second Annual Celebration

OPEN CALL FOR ARTISTS AND SPONSORS. "Hors’n Around Saugerties” is a
summer-long public art project located on the sidewalks in and around the Village of Saugerties, showcasing the work of local artists and raising money for deserving community organizations.

Saugerties, NY (Press Release Service) February 11, 2010 – Planning is now underway for the second annual “Hors’n Around Saugerties”, a summer-long public art project sponsored by the Saugerties Area Chamber of Commerce and the Saugerties Economic Development Committee.  Fifty artist-decorated, fiberglass prancing horses will be on display at street level from July 4th weekend through early September.  These vibrant horses attract many visitors to the town of Saugerties during the summer months and they also help to raise money for deserving community organizations.  This year six of the horses will be designed by students at each of the six Saugerties area public schools.

It's time for artists to get their creative juices flowing for this community wide display of art!  All artists interested in designing and transforming a sculpted horse into a work of art are encouraged to submit their proposals via an application available from the event committee.  Applications will be available via download using the link that appears above on this page, or by visiting www.welcometosaugerties.com, or artists may contact Nancy Campbell, (845) 246-0553 nancyo@hvc.rr.com, to pick up or request an application by mail.  The deadline for artist submissions is April 1st 2010.

Community residents and businesses are encouraged to sponsor individual horses.  Each Sponsor will in turn select an artist to decorate their horse (based on submitted designs) at an artist’s reception/cocktail party on April 17th.  Horse sponsorship is an excellent opportunity for businesses and individuals to give back to the community.  Benefits of sponsorship include hosting a decorated horse at one’s place of business (or along Main, Market or Partition Streets in the Village) and inclusion in the Official “Hors’n Around Saugerties 2010” guide and website. Sponsorship will be evident and impressive in this ever-growing communitywide
event. The culmination of “Hors’n Around Saugerties” will be on September 10th at the “Unbridled Fun” Gala and Auction led by Donny Malone. All fifty horses will be offered for auction during this special celebration to raise money for local organizations.  Proceeds from the live auction will benefit the Cahill Elementary School PTA Playground Fund, a notable Saugerties based charity TBD, the Saugerties Area Chamber of Commerce, and the artists who created the horses.
