Date of meeting: 3/26/09 Place of Meeting: Dutch Arms Chapel
Kevin Brady, SACofC Chair, opened the meeting.
Each attendee introduced themselves to other attendees. (31 addendees)
Mayor Yerick spoke about the recent Village election. He was re-elected to the post of Village Mayor. He spoke of his accomplishments while being mayor and his vision and priorities for the Village of Saugerties for the coming months.
John Bassler from the Saugerties Economic Development Committee, gave an overview of the survey they conducted last year to help businesses in Saugerties flourish. & develope. The EDC is planning to conduct a survey this year again to identify critical needs for Saugerties businesses. An attendee suggested the idea of posting availabe jobs on the Chamber website, which was very well received.
Kevin Brady introduced the three newly elected Board members: Beth Murphy, Mike Wardell and Peggy Schwartz.
Bob Karcy suggested an anonymous posting and exchange of information being arranged, to match up potential job seekers with businesses that have positions open. Most agreed that this was a worthwhile idea which the Chamber will follow up on. Bob also suggested that since the upcoming Chamber-sponsored Hors'n Around Saugerties public-art display will be such a large and impressive event, that there ought to be high-quality filming of the event so that beyond the public-access (TV23) usage of the film, high-definition film clips from the resulting program could potentially be used by national networks . . . which would be offer great publicity for Hors'n Around and thus Saugerties as well.
Judith Spektor suggested that we ought to consider doing something to spruce up any empty storefronts in the Village business district. Her suggestion was to have local artist's work displayed in the vacant shops....this was well recieved and will be investigated.
Update on the 'Hors'n Arond Saugerties art event by Beth Murphy & Mark Smith. We're on target to have 46 decorated horses installed for Memorial Day weekend. Chamber of Commerce sponsored Flea Markets for 2009 will take place in the same space (Former Grand Union Parking lot) the 2nd Saturday in June & the 2nd Saturday in Oct.
The link to apply for space will be posted on the Chamber website soon.
We will have the Chamber sponsored concerts this summer once again ... this year to be called 'Music on the Hudson' to take place the first Friday in June, July, August and September.
The meeting was followed by about 45 minutes of socializing.
Respectfully submitted, Mark Smith |
