Saugerties Area Chamber of Commerce Meeting Notes February 26, 2009, 6:30 p.m. at Precision Flow - Kevin Brady, Chair, SACofC opened the meeting
- Each attendee introduced themselves (32 attendees)
- Hors'n Around Saugerties update (Nancy Campbell) Co-sponsored by SACofC and Saugerties Economic Development Committee - have 45 horses to be installed Memorial Day weekend. Members can check updates for this eent at the event's Website: www.horsnaroundsaugerties.com
- Health Insurance for SACofC members - Presentation by Erin Nevins of two insurance carriers (MVP and CDPHP). Enrollment for members who are interested is now through March 15 for a starting date of April 1, 2009.
- Presentation of Board of Directors for SACofC whose terms are up ... renominated were Kevin Brady, Mike Campbell, Miriam Adams, and Bob Cranston. New board member nominees were Beth Murphy (liaison to Saugerties Economic Development Committee), Peggy Schwartz, and Mike Wardell. Existing Board members whose terms are not up yet are Mery Rosado and Mark Smith. Total Board membership is 9 members.
- SACofC member Richard Frisbie announced he is running for Saugerties Village Mayor. Also that the Saugerties Pro Musica will be performing as part of this year's Holiday in the Village celebration.
- SACofC member Gary Bischoff presented Hector Rodriguez from the Ulster County Economic Development Committee. Hector offered SACofC members the opportunity to have the UCEDC help anyone who needs help with businss plans or any other issues pertaining to their businesses to contact him.
- Kevin Brady opened the floor to anyone who might have comments:
- Peggy Schwartz who owns Town & Country Liquors spoke about the present move in NY State to allow grocery stores and supermarkets to sell wine and how it would be a detriment to independent main street wine shops. Peggy stated that if SACofC members agreed to oppose the pending legislation, they should contact government officials to register their opposition. Kevin asked if the membes backed an official position of SACofC to oppose this legislation, and this backing was given, unanimously. - Flea market update - Mark Smith announced that the SACofC will be planning to have 2 flea markets for Summer 2009. After the rather successful one that we sponsored last October, we will plan to have 2 this year ... one oon the 2nd Saturday of June and the other on the 2nd Saturday of October at the same location - the old Grand Union parking lot on Route 212. We are looking for volunteers to help with these worthwhile exciting events.
- Kevin invited interested members to tour the Precision Flow facility.
- The meeting was adjourned at approximately 8:30 p.m.
