The Saugerties Village Businesses and the Saugerties Area Chamber of Commerce welcome you to the annual Saugerties Holiday in the Village, a fun-filled event that kicks off the holiday season in our Village and Town. In 2010, the event is being held on Sunday, December 5th.
You’ll find fashion and vintage apparel, homewares, hardware, chocolates and other goodies, wines, jewelry, antiques, books and gifts galore all in a short walk that includes Market Street, Main Street and Partition Street. To add to your shopping experience, select businesses will be decorating their windows for the holidays. After you’ve finished shopping, you can grab a bite at one of our Zagat-rated fine restaurants. The Dutch colonial Kiersted House, home of the Historical Society, will be open from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. and Santa will be there to say hi to the kids. Ever wonder what it would be like to go back to the good old days and have a nice holiday celebration that gets you in a great holiday mood?
Come join us for this year's Holiday in the Village of Saugerties. If you attended last year, you'll see many of the same fun events going on, including: - Free craft stations (please limit your time in these businesses to a reasonable amount, so that everyone can share in the enjoyment).
- Catskill Mountain Woodcarvers and the Smokehouse of the Catskills will appear once again, at Smith Hardware.
- Free horse-drawn wagon rides. Last year there was one wagon . . . thanks to Ray Mayone, we're doubling that with two rides this year.
- Santa will be part of the Kiersted House Holiday Open House.
- Musical performances will include strolling Carollers, the St. Mary of the Snow choir, and the Raspberry Fiddlers, performing at Saugerties Pro Musica.
- Another fun street dance performance by World of Dance Studio will captivate everyone.
- The Kiwanis Club of Saugerties once again puts on its Seamon Park lighting and a reading of 'Twas the Night before Christmas.
- The always popular, visual excitement of the firemen's Parade of Lights.
Enhancements to the program this year are provided in a very big way courtesy of Bob Siracusano of Sawyer Motors, who's initiating a giant toy giveaway. He and Tom Struzzieri from HITS and Bob's brother Larry from Sawyer Chevrolet are providing more than $5,000 to buy toys for kids (ages 3 - 13) which will be given away in raffles that will take place at various times during the day. Kids only need to be present to claim there prizes by 4 or thereabouts on that day. Raffle tickets are free. Also, Ray Mayone will be providing two teams of horse/wagons for hay rides due to the popularity of the event. Jeannine Dirie has arranged for Karl Lezette to provide a bus service to take folks from Main Street to Seamon Park for the Kiwanis tree/park lighting, after the firemen's light parade, and then bring them back to the village. And following Holiday in the Village, be on the lookout for expanded business hours from select Saugerties Village businesses on Partition, Main and Market Streets, for your holiday shopping convenience.
